History of Antigua Inside Out
Ready to discover the history of Antigua?
Our tour starts at Fort James, built by the British in the 18th century to protect the St. John’s Harbour from enemy ships. Then we move to the old sugarcane plantation (Betty’s Hope), an open-air museum where we can still see two restored sugar mills and ruins originally belonging to the plantation. After, we’ll head to Devil’s Bridge, a natural and historical site. Driving to the south of Antigua, we’ll visit Nelson’s Dockyard, the World Unesco Site. We’ll start with the museum discovering the life of Lord Nelson in Antigua, continuing with a walk to Fort Berkley and finishing up at Shirley Heights stopping at the Interpretation Center and the blockhouse. After this full immersion in the history, you deserve to have lunch in a local restaurant.
